This one-day course in Manchester is for anyone looking for an introduction into the fascinating world of photography. Join photographer Suchitra as she shares insights into how to make photographs that convey a strong sense of emotion in the viewer. Get advice to help make the most of your camera. Suchitra will show how to add depth to your images.
Photography is a combination of technical knowledge with artistic skills. This course is a perfect balance of the theory with the practical, helping you make images pleasing to the eyes.

Part 1: Theory
- Exposure triangle: Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO
- Lighting and how it affects your images
- Digital Potential of your images
- Equipment and lenses
There will also be in-depth critique and information about photography in practice.
Part 2: Practical
You will have the opportunity to practice your newly acquired skills during field trip. In the local environment of Heaton Park, we will practice making photos of people and nature.
- Birds and nature
This class is about getting inspired, learning new things and will enable you to make good photographs, improve your skills and share experience in an encouraging environment. With emphasis on practical, hands-on shooting exercises, this course will make you feel in control of your digital camera. The review session will provide you with valuable and encouraging feedback.

Suchitra is a photographer based locally in Manchester. Photography is her passion and her photographs have been exhibited in Bury Art Gallery through Bury Photographic Society. She enjoys photographing as much as helping learn the basics of photography.

Situated in the centre of Manchester, it is easily accessible by bus, tram or car. There is parking available in the Great Northern carpark in the building behind Rise Manchester. When arriving, please come through Grindsmith cafe, and up the stairs to reach the Rise Manchester reception desk and ask for Room Bridgewater.
£30 per session. You will need to bring your own camera.
- There are a maximum of 3 places available on each session. So early booking is essential.
- Participants must be over 16 years of age.
- Please bring your DSLR camera, its manual and also 3 photographs to be critiqued during the session.
- Please be prepared for the weather and bring an umbrella, if necessary.
Cancellations / Refunds:
Once you have made your course booking your are committed to it. This is because the courses have very small student numbers. Therefore any cancellations may result in a place not being filled, or a course not being able to run. If you are unable to attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments you do not have the right to a refund.
If you wish to cancel your place on a course that has not yet started and you have a friend or colleague who can take your place, this substitution can be accommodated.
